Injury management consultants (IMC) are SIRA approved medical doctors that are experienced in occupational injuries.
IMC Doctors help overcome complex return to work and injury management barriers in order to achieve the best possible outcome for workers. IMC Doctors help the nominated treating doctor, worker, insurer, employer and other service providers to progress a worker’s recovery and optimise health and work outcomes.
A referral to an injury management consultant may occur when a worker has been identified at risk of delayed recovery, a specific return to work or injury management issue has been identified or referral has been requested by the worker, employer, nominated treating doctor or other treating practitioner.
An IMC stage 2 is the same as a file review. An IMC may conduct a file review where a referrer identifies the need for an injury management consultation but does not consider it necessary for the IMC to examine the worker. After reviewing the file, the IMC Doctor will discuss solutions with the relevant parties and seek agreement on actions and outcomes.
An IMC stage 3 involves a file review and examination of the injured worker. The IMC Doctor will then discuss solutions with the relevant parties and seek agreement on actions and outcomes. IMC stage 3 assessments can be conducted in person or via Telehealth video conference.
The SIRA injury management consultant referral form has been developed to promote appropriate information being provided in the referral. The IMC referral template can be downloaded here.
