Our independent Pharmacists are impartial accredited clinical Pharmacists. They are not directly employed by the insurance company, hence avoiding any conflict of interest. Our independent Pharmacists possess extensive experience in providing comprehensive Medication Reviews.
The primary role of independent pharmacists is to obtain a thorough and comprehensive medication profile. This involves analysing the interactions between medications related to the claim and non-claim related medications. We work closely with the injured person’s treating practitioners and suggest safer alternative treatments that can help reduce and eventually eliminate the use of high-risk medications. This approach aligns with the objective of facilitating a safe and prompt return to the injured person’s pre-injury role.
We collaborate with case managers to establish the focus and objectives of our Medication Reviews so we can provide a customised report which is tailored to their specific needs. Our comprehensive reports are created in consultation with treating practitioners and feature targeted recommendations, including straightforward titration plans where necessary. We can also assist case managers and treating practitioners to implement our recommendations.
A referral for a medication review assessment is typically made when an insurer wants to evaluate the overall medication profile being prescribed to an individual, particularly for high-risk medications like opioids for pain management or benzodiazepines for anxiety and sleep disorders. These medications carry significant risks of adverse health effects, dependence, and accidental overdose. By seeking an independent assessment through a medication review, insurers can gain a more objective perspective on the appropriateness and safety of the prescribed medications.
